COOK COUNTY WEBSITE TO SHOW HOW TAX MONEY IS SPENT!

Yesterday the Cook County Board voted in favor of posting all vendor contracts on the existing website.  In four to six months, taxpayers in the county can view how nearly half a billion is spent on vendors.  While most supported the proposal, some did not.  The wife of Stroger’s best friend who is also head of the purchasing department cited cost as $2,425,000; needing five new workers to complete the task and $2 million worth of equipment.  The county technology head stated that it could be done for much less.  William Beavers did not vote in favor of the measure citing politics as his main reason for not wanting to become more transparent with the taxpayers.   One other commissioner voted against the measure citing the original cost estimate and claiming that those who want to spend money also need to raise it.
