Earlier this month, it was reported that the Chicago Transit Authority may raise fares again next year, claiming that they have financial problems, while they replaced its mechanics with city mechanics, who are paid $10 more an hour, and they began paying the city .34 per gallon to pump the diesel and gasoline they could pump with their own fueling stations.
Now, the Regional Transportation Authority wants to expand their boardroom at their headquarters, at a cost of $1 million. To do this, the company is planning to move its call center to the Metra building, for $100,000.
Moving the call center and the new boardroom will also create further expenses, because the RTA is finalizing a $250,000 contract with architects to develop the designs. Also, it will cost the RTA $750,000 to lease the space in the Metra building for five years.
