Very few people knew about the meeting that was held on Thursday at the 34th ward regular democratic organization office, but what happened at the meeting is going to be very publicized. In this meeting, Emil Jones III was nominated as the democratic candidate for the seat being vacated by his father, the Senate present Emil Jones.
The other contender for the spot, Dozier Thomas, was unanimously defeated. Thomas, a retired school teacher was nominated by state representative Monique Davis as a way to let the democrats know that they should have opened up the candidacy to other qualified individuals.
Jones III, 30, is currently employed with the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. Now, Jones III will be on the ballots and is expected to have an easy victory against the republican candidate Ray Wardingly, given that the area is mostly democratic.
As a result of Jones’ retirement, the senate will also have to choose a new president.
