Darryl Williams, a former electrical inspector for the Chicago’s department of construction and permits, has been sentenced to 3 years in prison and 200 hours of community service for taking at least $200,000 in bribes.
Williams would be paid the bribes to get development plans paperwork approved by the city faster. In one instance, Williams was caught in video discussing one of his deals, in which he would be charging $10,000 to speed up the processing of one permit.
Although the defense attorney was arguing for a two-year sentence, the judge gave Williams slightly more than the minimum of 33 months given to those who commit the type of crime Williams did.
