It is almost certain that Ridgeland School District 122’s tax raise proposal did not get enough support to pass.
After 22 of the 23 precincts had reported their results, the tally of votes against the tax hike was 4,720, and there were 2,062 votes in favor of the measure.
For the third time in less than two years, the Oak Lawn school district was proposing to raise its operating tax rate by 70 cents, meaning that those who owned a $200,000 house would have to pay up to $345 in property taxes each year.
In previous attempts to pass the tax raise, the district had threatened to close one school and to convert to grade centers, but what they did at the end was to find modest ways to save money, raised some fees, and asked once more for the tax raise.
